ONION (colours – Spring Green (7126) and Nutmeg (7147))

Start by making green parts of the Onion - make 1 longer part and 1 shorter part.

Start with colour 'Spring Green'

Longer green part – make 1

1) Magic ring, 6sc (6)

2-13) 1sc in each stitch for 12 rows (6)

Once longer part is finished, F/O and cut off yarn (when cutting off yarn, leave short tail and using needle weave it in). Stuff with polyester filling (use small tweezers for easier stuffing) and put aside for now.

Shorter green part – make 1

1) Magic ring, 6sc (6)

2-7) 1sc in each stitch for 6 rows (6)

Once shorter part is finished, stuff with polyester filling (use small tweezers for easier stuffing), then join it to the longer part with sl st. Now, when both parts are completed, joined and stuffed, make:

8) 1sc in next 6 stitches (around first part), then 1sc in next 6 stitches (around second part)

Don’t count sl st as a stitch (ignore it) (12)

Change colour to ‘Nutmeg’

9) In FLO: 1sc, 2sc – repeat to the end of row (18)

10) In BLO: 1sc in next 2 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (24)

11) 1sc in next 3 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (30)

12) 1sc in next 4 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (36)

13) 1sc in next 8 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (40)

14-18) 1sc in each stitch for 5 rows (40)

19) 1sc in next 8 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (36)

20) 1sc in next 4 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (30)

Insert safety eyes between rows 16 – 17, within a distance of 5 holes (count holes between the stitches). Stuff onion with polyester filling.

Using needle and a short piece of dark brown yarn, make smile (smile can also be made in the end, when onion is finished).

21) 1sc in next 3 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (24)

22) 1sc in next 2 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (18)

23) 1sc, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (12)

24) 2tog to the end – or F/O this row with needle: watch video on YouTube: Make a Stitch channel

Once onion is completed (stuffed and closed):

  • go to BLO (made in row 10) and using hook make 1sc in each stitch

  • when finished, join to the first stitch with sl st; next, F/O and using needle weave in remaining thread

As a last step, using colour ‘Natural’, make roots – check “How to make Amigurumi hair” tutorial HERE (click on link or alternatively check TUTORIALS section )
