DAIKON (colours – Pistachio (86) and White (80)

Start with colour ‘Pistachio’

1) Magic ring, 6sc (6)

2) 2sc in each stitch (12)

3) 2sc in each stitch (24)

4) 1sc in next 3 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (30)

5-9) 1sc in each stitch for 5 rows (30)

Change colour to ‘White’

10-21) 1sc in each stitch for 12 rows (30)

22) 1sc in next 3 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (24)

23) 1sc in each stitch (24)

24) 1sc in next 6 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (21)

25) 1sc in each stitch (21)

  • Insert safety eyes between rows 17 – 18, within a distance of 4 holes (count holes between the stitches)

  • Using needle and a piece of black yarn, make smile (this can be done before daikon is finished, or after)

  • Stuff with polyester filling

26) 1sc in next 5 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (18)

27) 1sc in next 4 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (15)

28) 1sc in next 3 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (12)

29) 1sc, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (8)

30) 1sc in next 2 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (6)

31) 2tog to the end, then CH 5; next, starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, make 1sc in next 4 chain stitches (to the back of the chain – now you’re crocheting towards the root) – when done, cut off yarn leaving longer tail and using needle weave in remaining thread.

LEAVES x 4 (colour – Grass Green (66))

  • When starting/finishing each leaf, leave longer tails for sewing.

  • When done, F/O and using needle attach each leaf to the top of the daikon. Use both tails, then weave in remaining threads.

1) Ch 7 (7)

2) Starting from 2nd chain from the hook, make 1sc in next 6 stitches, turn (6)

3) Ch 1, 1sc in next 6 stitches, turn (6)

4) Ch 1, 1sc in next 6 stitches (6)
