  • Crochet hook size 3.0 mm

  • Polyester Craft Filling for toys

  • Black safety eyes x 2 size 6mm

  • Tapestry needle

  • Scissors

  • Stitch marker or a piece of yarn to mark the end of a round


Yarn

  • Yellow (DK type)

  • Red (DK type)


Skills required / abbreviations / info

  • MG – magic ring (make specified number of single crochet stitches into the loop)

  • Sc – single crochet

  • Inc – 2sc increase (crochet 2 single crochet stitches into the same stitch)

  • Dec – 2tog decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)

  • F/O – finish off

  • R – spiral round 

  • ( )* – repeat the sequence in brackets to the end of the round

  • (12) – number of stitches expected at the end of the round

  • Work in spiral rounds, do not turn/join unless stated otherwise

CHICKEN (one piece - comb and body)


Start with colour RED. 

Start by making 1st round part of the comb.


R 1 mg, 7sc (7)

R 2 – 3  sc 7 (2 rounds) (7)


When completed, F/O and cut off yarn. Now, make identical, 2nd part by repeating R 1 - 3; don't cut off yarn - instead, join with the first part with sl st. Stuff with polyester filling as you go.


R 4 sc 7 (around first part), sc 7 (around second part)  (14)

Don't count sl st as a stitch; skip it

R 5 (sc 5, dec)* (12)

Change colour to YELLOW and continue by making body

BEAK


Use colour RED. Stuff with polyester filling. When completed, cut off yarn leaving longer thread for sewing. Sew to the body between R 12 – 14.

WINGS x 2


Use colour YELLOW. When completed, flatten each wing and close with sl st. Next, cut off yarn leaving longer tail for sewing. Sew to the body between R 13 – 14.
