Easy to make free crochet Beetroot pattern. Enjoy!


Size:

  • circa 15 cm / 5.9 inch in length (from the top of the leaves to the end of the root)

Tools:

  • crochet hook size 3.0 mm

  • scissors

  • craft pins

  • needle

Materials:

  • Stylecraft Special DK: Plum (1061), 100% Acrylic, 100g

  • Stylecraft Special DK: Grass Green (1821), 100% Acrylic, 100g

  • Longer piece of black yarn to make smile

  • Polyester filling for toys

  • Black safety eyes x 2 – size 6mm

Skills required / abbreviations / info:

  • Magic ring (crochet specified number of single crochet stitches into the adjustable loop)

  • Sc - single crochet

  • 2sc - increase (crochet 2 single crochet stitches into the same stitch)

  • 2tog - decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)

  • CH – chain stitch

  • Sl st – slip stitch

  • F/O - finish off

  • Work in continuous spiral, do not turn or join, unless stated otherwise

  • Sewing parts together

Invisible Decrease: insert hook into front loops only of next 2 stitches, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops on hook; 1sc remains which means invisible decrease is completed.



BEETROOT (colour – Plum (1061))


1) Magic ring, 6sc (6)

2) 2sc in each stitch (12)

3) 1sc, 2sc – repeat to the end of row (18)

4) 1sc in next 2 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (24)

5) 1sc in next 3 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (30)

6) 1sc in next 4 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (36)

7) 1sc in each stitch (36)

8) 1sc in next 5 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (42)

9) 1sc in each stitch (42)

10) 1sc in next 13 stitches, then 2sc in next stitch – repeat to the end of row (45)

11-13) 1sc in each stitch for 3 rows (45)

14) 1sc in next 13 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (42)

15) 1sc in next 5 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (36)

16) 1sc in each stitch (36)

17) 1sc in next 4 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (30)

18) 1sc in each stitch (30)

  • Insert safety eyes between rows 11 – 12, within a distance of 5 holes (count holes between the stitches)

  • Using needle and a piece of black yarn, make smile (this can be done before beetroot is finished, or after)

  • Stuff with polyester filling

19) 1sc in next 3 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (24)

20) 1sc in next 2 stitches, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (18)

21) 1sc, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (12)

22-24) 1sc in each stitch for 3 rows (12)

25) 2tog to the end

26) CH 6

  • Cut off yarn leaving longer tail

  • Using needle, pull the beetroot’ yarn tail throughout the length of whole chain, then weave the remaining thread into the beetroot

  • When completed, using fingers, straighten the end of the root by pulling it a bit

LEAVES – x 3 (colours – Grass Green (1821) and Plum (1061))


Start with colour ‘Grass Green’


1) Magic ring, 5sc (5)

2) 2sc in each stitch (10)

3) 1sc, 2sc – repeat to the end of row (15)

4-6) 1sc in each stitch for 3 rows (15)

7) 1sc, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (10)

8) 1sc in each stitch (10)

9) 1sc, 2sc – repeat to the end of row (15)

10-11) 1sc in each stitch for 2 rows (15)

12) 1sc, then 2tog – repeat to the end of row (10)

13) 2tog – repeat 5 times (5)


Change colour to ‘Plum’


14-18) 1sc in each stitch for 5 rows (5)

  • Close with sl st leaving longer tails for sewing

  • Using needle and a separate longer piece of ‘Plum’ yarn, make 1 line in the centre of each leaf (on the front and on the back of it)

  • Attach 1 leaf to the top of the beetroot and 2 remaining leaves just behind it (keep them all as close as possible – there should be no space between them)
